City to City

I’ve been meaning to do a post about all this for a week now but somehow it just slipped through the cracks.

A week ago my roommates and I trekked it up to NYC for the weekend. I love New York, there is so much to see and so much to do and each time I visit it’s so different. It was really nice to get away for a weekend, sometimes it really gives you the perspective you need. However, I was a very bad blogger and I didn’t document the trip too well (I guess I was too busy having fun) but here were some of the highlights/recommendations in NYC.

Ess-a-bagels

Once we walked in to this place we instantly knew it was going to be good. There was a long line, tons of cream cheese to choose from and lots of delicious New York style bagels hot out of the oven.  I opted for an everything bagel with herb cream cheese. It was awesome!

Chelsea Market

I have always wanted to go to Chelsea market and I was so happy I got the chance. It’s a large building (which use to be the Nabisco Companies headquarters) that has restaurants and specialty food shops inside. We were a little obsessed with the olive oil and vinegar tastings at one shop (the apricot balsamic vinegar was amazing), wine tasting, and pastry shops. It’s definitely a fun foodie place to check out.

Brooklyn Winery Wine Bar

We clearly ended up all over town during the weekend and I am so glad we got to try this wine bar in the Williamsburg neighborhood in Brooklyn. The atmosphere was really friendly with long wooden tables that were shared among different parties. The wine was great and the cheese plater and baked brie were perfect for snacking. Big thumbs up to this place and it’s beanie wearing wait staff.

Highline

I had never heard of highline until this trip but it was really interesting. It’s an elevated path/park that once was a railway on Manhattan’s west side. It was a really cool way to see the city and is probably a great hang out during the summer months.

This cupcake place in the village was so freaking cool! Not only did it have awesome flavors like peanut butter nutella, peach cobbler and cookie dough but the swinging chairs, desks as tables and retro lunch boxes on display as well as the ability make your own cupcake made for a really fun atmosphere. If you are in New York you must go here!

Now back to DC! I’ve lived in DC for about a year now and I am still figuring it all out. So the other day I decided to just walk through the city and take it all in.

I started out in Dupont. It was so nice out I decided to grab a black ice tea from Teasism, a tea house and lunch spot. It was just what I wanted while walking around town.

I meandered all the way to Chinatown.

And decided to check out the National Portrait Gallery. The last time I was there I didn’t have a chance to see as much as I wanted. I definitely think it’s one of the best museums in DC.

I then stopped in TangySweet for some Fro yo. I got the featured flavor which was cannoli with raspberries. It was sweet with a little spice, different, but really good.

I then made my way down towards the National Mall.

Past the skating rink currently in the sculpture garden.

Onto the mall.

I hung around for awhile and basked in the sun and monuments.

It was really nice to just take some time out and walk around the city and take it all in. I definitely plan to do this again in other parts of the city very soon.

All in all I’m definitely a city girl and I love it!
